The Greatest Social Media Growth Hack of All Time
This can result in a 2,500%+ increase in engagement. And it’s a lot easier than you think.
One of the most common things people ask me is how I growth hack my social media accounts so rapidly. Just of the pages and accounts on various platforms that I publicly associate with (which are my most conservative), they get increases by up to 100’s of thousands of targeted followers in a month, while maintaining quality and engagement. And subsequently, has allowed me the ability to reach 10s of millions of people per month across social media properties.
There are a lot of growth hacks in my playbook, but there is one incredible growth hack, in particular, that is used far too infrequently by people, and I’m going to tell you exactly what that is.
The thing is, most of the people reading this will not implement it. And that is, unfortunately, a part of our society that even given the best information that works, people will come up with reasons not to act.
The Greatest Social Media Growth Hack Involves No Special Software
Most people when they think of growth hacks and blowing up social media channels and website traffic quickly, think there must be some top secret software that does some automated task or utilizes a feature that is unknown to many people.
While that can sometimes be the case, it’s not what I’m talking about here. In fact, what I’m saying here is so fundamentally simple that some people are not going to believe me. But, I’m OK with that. As humans, we have a tendency of making seemingly difficult things, even more difficult, rather than simplifying and finding the 20% of effort that gets 80% of results.
Before I explain how to implement and what this great hack is, I’m going to give you a basic understanding of human psychology and talk about the importance of leadership.
You see, in our society and human nature, people so desperately want a leader. They want someone to look up to, iconify and follow.
Here’s What To Do
Most people that consider themselves leaders don’t lead. There, I said it.
People that are self-proclaimed leaders, forget the biggest and single most important step of leadership, is leading.
By definition, a leader is, “the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country.”
So how do you lead?
Leading requires you to go first and to show people the way. Leadership is very much like the “follow the leader” game you play as kids. I’m going to show you what I want you to do, and to make certain that you understand I’m also going to tell you very bluntly what I want you to to do.
How does this relate to social media?
The biggest growth hack of all time, as I’ve eluded is the simplest thing that most people reading this will not implement because it’s so simple. But, it’s actually one of the most powerful things that you can do.
You see, and I don’t mean this in a disrespectful way to anyone, but most people are followers, not leaders. That’s just how it is. The majority of the people on our planet are not born leaders, so naturally, leadership does not come naturally to everyone. But, I believe like anything it too can be learned.
Now, the greatest social media hack of all time is incorporating leadership into your content, by showing (and more importantly for social media) telling people exactly what you want them to do.
I recently used Instagram as a case study. I said to myself, how can I get a 2,500%+ increase in engagement? Well, by being a better leader came to mind. I then started testing various strategies on my multiple accounts that would result in that growth and increase.
And guess what? It worked. By telling people exactly what I wanted them to do, I saw that 2,500%+ increase in engagement.
It’s very simple to incorporate. And this is not limited to Instagram. I’m now utilizing these methods on almost all social media platforms, and seeing similar increases in engagement. By simply telling people exactly what I want them to do “Tag someone that would like to see this”, “Type ‘YES’ if you agree”, or “Comment below!”, I’m seeing ridiculous increases in engagement.
You have to be seen as a leader, or nobody will want to follow you or do what you say. If people consider you to be a leader, you have to actually lead and show and tell people what you want them to do. Otherwise, you’re another follower, and they aren’t going to engage. And by participating in the activity yourself, as the leader, you create the atmosphere that makes people want to join too.
I even take it a step further and engage in other content around social media in the form of leaving high-level comments. Now you are showing that leadership to your followers in the world as a whole, and you are regarded even higher by your fan as well as gain new ones.
This strategy can also be used on all other social media platforms. Asking visitors of your Facebook Live to Share or ask them specific questions as they enter the stream can result in more engagement and people on your stream. For Twitter, asking questions to your following both helps you identify who they are and creates a viral effect and engagement. But don’t forget to go first not only on your own content but around social media. Nobody likes someone that doesn’t do what they ask others to do.
Finally, my most viral video in the last few months with almost 11 million views now, all started because I asked my audience a simple question rather than just labeling the video.
So there you have it, the greatest social media hack of all time that most people will not bother incorporating because they think it won’t work or is too simple. But let me tell you, the biggest and most influential social media accounts are doing well because they are incorporating real leadership.
